“The Heidelberg: A Conversation”

HEIDELBERG.2A new Sermon Series beginning May 22.
Four hundred and fifty years ago, a teaching tool called “The Heidelberg Catechism” was published. We continue to look at this document as a guide to understanding the Christian faith. What is remarkable about this writing is that it does not begin with a rigidly worked out theology. Instead it begins with the human predicament. It asks questions. And then it thoughtfully weaves its way through Scripture to answer these questions in a very personal way.
Is the Heidelberg Catechism relevant today? Yes. The “Heidelberg” draws us into a conversation involving our present life situation and the biblical story that has been passed down to us. Craig Barnes, President of Princeton Theological Seminary, calls this a “holy conversation.”
Over the next 6 weeks we will engage the Scriptures and the teachings of the catechism as we seek to hear God speaking to us in the 21st century. Scripture. Catechism. The People of God. A holy conversation.
